Promise

‘Promise’ is a cast glass piece made from a mold of my hand. The artwork consists of a
hand extending out a pinky promise and a chain of connecting pinkies that hang down towards
the ground. There is a color gradient starting from the hand where it is the most intense green,
to the last pinky which is made with all clear glass. This is to represent how some promises fade
over time.
‘Promise' is inspired by a story my brother once told me of him and his friend. They
made a promise that they would be friends forever. Due to circumstances beyond their control
they were unable to keep their promise and drifted apart due to a lack of communication. They
were children during a time when there was no social media, so it was harder to have the
means to stay in touch. Though my brother has accepted the loss of his childhood friend, this
piece is meant to capture the sadness I felt when he told me the story.
